T-34/85

Bring one of the Soviet Union’s most recognisable World War II armoured vehicles to your collection with this detailed T-34/85 model. Combining the celebrated T-34 chassis with increased firepower and an enlarged turret, it represents the mature late-war form of the Red Army’s influential medium tank.

Historical Role

Introduced into Red Army service during the later stages of the Eastern Front campaign, the T-34/85 served as a versatile medium tank. Its 85 mm gun offered improved capability against increasingly well-armoured German vehicles, while its mobility and practical design supported rapid advances, infantry operations and deep armoured offensives. It became a prominent feature of Soviet formations pushing westward into Central Europe.

Distinctive Appearance

The T-34/85 is immediately identified by its large, rounded turret, long gun barrel and broad, sloping hull armour. Wide tracks, prominent road wheels, low hull profile and rear-mounted engine deck create its characteristic silhouette. Cast turret contours and the commander’s cupola further distinguish it from earlier T-34 versions.

Variant Differences

Developed from the earlier T-34/76, the T-34/85 retained the broadly familiar chassis and sloped hull but introduced a larger turret ring, a more spacious three-man turret and a more powerful 85 mm gun. The larger turret, longer barrel and commander’s cupola are the clearest modelling differences. These changes improved anti-armour performance and allowed the commander to concentrate more effectively on battlefield awareness and coordination.

Modelling Uses

This model is ideal for late-war Eastern Front dioramas, Red Army armoured columns, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors of historic military vehicles. The range of scales supports everything from compact railway scenes and massed tabletop formations to larger display models with more prominent surface detail.

Fun Fact

The T-34/85’s three-man turret gave the commander a more dedicated role than in earlier T-34 models, improving crew coordination. The design proved so enduring that versions were also manufactured after World War II in Poland and Czechoslovakia.
