T-35 Soviet Heavy Tank – UNIQUE DESIGN

Bring one of the Red Army’s most unmistakable armoured vehicles to your collection with this detailed T-35 model. Developed during the 1930s and still in Soviet service at the beginning of the Eastern Front campaign, the T-35 represents an ambitious approach to heavy breakthrough tank design. Its extraordinary five-turret arrangement earns this model our UNIQUE DESIGN badge, reflecting a layout rarely seen on production tanks.

Historical Role

The T-35 was conceived as a heavy breakthrough tank intended to support Red Army infantry against fortified positions. Its multiple turrets allowed weapons to cover several directions, while the centrally mounted main turret provided the vehicle’s principal firepower. Although imposing in appearance, the T-35 was mechanically complex and increasingly outdated by the opening stages of the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. It remains closely associated with early-war Soviet armoured formations and pre-war military parades.

Distinctive Appearance

The defining feature of the T-35 is its long, elevated hull carrying five separate turrets. A large central turret armed with a 76.2 mm gun dominates the silhouette, accompanied by two smaller cannon turrets and two machine-gun turrets. The stepped arrangement, extensive running gear and broad tracks create an exceptionally busy profile that stands apart from conventional single-turret tanks. These features make the model instantly recognisable from almost any viewing angle.

Modelling Uses

This T-35 is ideal for early Eastern Front dioramas, Red Army parade scenes, model railways, wargaming displays and specialist collectors. Smaller scales work well for railway layouts and large battlefield scenes, while larger scales provide greater presence for painting, weathering and display. Its unusual silhouette also makes it a striking centrepiece among more familiar Soviet armour.

Fun Fact

The T-35 was one of the very few five-turreted tanks to enter production, embodying a short-lived period when military designers explored multi-turret layouts as a way to engage several targets at once.
