T14 Assault Tank

Historical Role
The T14 was conceived as a heavily armoured infantry-support and assault tank capable of advancing against fortified positions while accompanying troops. Designed through Anglo-American cooperation, it was intended primarily for British service and reflected combat experience gained with infantry tanks. Two pilot vehicles were completed in 1943, but the design did not enter production. By that stage, improving British tank designs and changing battlefield requirements had reduced the need for the T14 programme.
Distinctive Appearance
The T14 has a broad, powerful silhouette defined by its thick armour, substantial hull and prominent side protection around the suspension. Its rounded turret, 75 mm main gun and compact upper hull show a family resemblance to contemporary American tanks, while the heavy side skirts and robust running gear give it a noticeably more imposing appearance. These features create a convincing visual blend of American engineering and British infantry-tank thinking.

Fun Fact
Although only two T14 pilot vehicles were built, one was sent to Britain for evaluation. The surviving example is preserved by The Tank Museum at Bovington, making it a rare physical reminder of wartime cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom.
