T32 Heavy Tank
Bring an imposing piece of late-World War II American armoured development to your collection with the T32 Heavy Tank. Conceived as a heavily protected assault tank, the T32 combined proven components with increased armour and a powerful high-velocity gun. This detailed 3D-printed model captures the formidable character of a vehicle created to tackle the toughest battlefield obstacles.
Historical Role
The United States initiated the T32 programme in 1945, drawing on combat experience that highlighted the need for a tank capable of confronting heavy enemy armour and fortified positions. Intended for breakthrough and assault duties, it offered greater protection and firepower than standard American medium tanks. The war ended before the T32 could enter operational service, but its development contributed to post-war American heavy tank research.
Distinctive Appearance
The T32 is immediately recognisable by its exceptionally long hull, seven road wheels on each side and substantial frontal armour. Its massive turret, prominent gun mantlet and long 90 mm gun give it a powerful silhouette, while the extended rear turret bustle and broad tracks reinforce its purposeful heavy-tank appearance.
Variant Differences
Developed using the M26 Pershing as its mechanical foundation, the T32 featured an elongated and strengthened chassis, an additional road wheel, heavier armour and a much larger turret. Its high-velocity 90 mm T15E2 gun provided greater anti-armour performance than the Pershing’s standard weapon. These changes were intended to create a better-protected assault vehicle without developing every component entirely from scratch.
Modelling Uses
An excellent centrepiece for late-war or hypothetical European dioramas, the T32 also suits model railways featuring military transport scenes, tabletop wargaming displays and collections devoted to experimental American armour. Its size and unusual profile make it especially effective beside Shermans, Pershings and other Allied vehicles.
Fun Fact
Although designed during World War II, the T32 arrived too late for combat. Only a small group of pilot vehicles was completed, allowing the US Army to evaluate ideas that influenced later heavy tank development.
