Tiger I Version 2 – RARE VARIANT
Tiger I Version 2 presents an alternate production interpretation of Germany’s renowned Second World War heavy tank. The RARE VARIANT badge identifies this model as an alternative Tiger I production variant, offering collectors and modellers a distinctive counterpart to more familiar representations of the vehicle. Its imposing profile makes it a commanding centrepiece in any historically themed collection or display.
Historical Role
Officially designated Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E, the Tiger I entered Wehrmacht service in 1942. It was primarily issued to independent schwere Panzer-Abteilungen, where its powerful 8.8 cm KwK 36 main armament and heavy armour made it especially effective against enemy tanks at long range. Tiger units were employed as concentrated battlefield assets, reinforcing critical sectors, supporting major attacks and countering armoured breakthroughs on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.
Distinctive Appearance
The Tiger I is immediately recognisable by its broad, angular hull, near-vertical armour plates and large turret carrying the long 8.8 cm gun. Wide tracks, overlapping and interleaved road wheels, prominent exhaust assemblies and substantial front armour create its characteristic heavy, purposeful stance. Version 2 represents an alternate production configuration, adding visual variety for modellers assembling a broader Tiger I collection.
Modelling Uses
This detailed 3D-printed model is well suited to World War II dioramas, military scenes, model railways, wargaming displays and dedicated collectors. It can serve as a focal vehicle in a schwere Panzer-Abteilung setting, a maintenance scene, a rail-transport composition or an armoured column. The range of scales allows it to complement compact layouts as well as larger, detail-focused displays.
Fun Fact
The Tiger I’s interleaved road-wheel arrangement helped distribute its considerable weight and provided a relatively smooth ride, but mud, ice and debris could become trapped between the closely spaced wheels, complicating maintenance in harsh field conditions.
