Tiger II Henschel Turret
Recreate one of the most recognisable German heavy tanks of the Second World War with this detailed Tiger II in the production-turret configuration commonly known as the “Henschel turret.” Its imposing proportions, powerful armament and angular late-war profile make it an outstanding centrepiece for military models, displays and historical scenes.
Historical Role
Introduced in 1944, the Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B was designed as a heavily armoured breakthrough tank capable of engaging enemy armour at long range. Better known as the Tiger II or Königstiger, it combined thick, sloped armour with the formidable 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 gun. Tiger IIs served in independent schwere Panzer-Abteilungen on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, where their battlefield effectiveness was balanced by considerable weight, mechanical demands and high fuel consumption.
Distinctive Appearance
The Tiger II is defined by its broad hull, sharply sloped glacis, overlapping road wheels and long 8.8 cm gun barrel. This production turret has a broad, nearly vertical front plate, angled sides and a substantial rear bustle, creating the purposeful silhouette associated with most operational Tiger IIs.
Variant Differences
This model represents the standard production-turret Tiger II rather than the earlier configuration commonly called the “Porsche turret.” It retained the same Tiger II chassis and main armament but replaced the earlier turret’s rounded front profile with a simpler, more angular form that reduced the prominent lower-front shot trap. Although widely called Henschel and Porsche turrets, both turret types were designed and manufactured by Krupp.
Modelling Uses
Ideal for late-war German dioramas, model railways, wargaming displays and collectors, this model can represent vehicles deployed in defensive positions, armoured columns, maintenance scenes or urban battle settings. The range of scales supports everything from compact railway layouts to highly detailed display collections.
Fun Fact
The name Königstiger is often translated into English as “King Tiger,” although “Royal Tiger” also appeared in contemporary Allied usage.
