U-Boat Type VIIC RC Hull 1-48

Recreate one of the most recognisable German submarines of the Second World War with this detailed U-Boat Type VIIC RC hull from Blueprint to Print 3D. Designed for maritime modelling and display projects, the model captures the purposeful profile of the Kriegsmarine’s principal ocean-going U-boat type. It is an excellent centrepiece for harbour scenes, naval collections and historically themed layouts.

Historical Role

The Type VIIC formed the backbone of the Kriegsmarine’s U-boat force during the Battle of the Atlantic. Operating individually or as part of coordinated groups, these submarines attacked Allied merchant shipping and naval escorts in an effort to disrupt vital supply routes. Their combination of practical range, torpedo armament and operational flexibility made the type suitable for patrols across the North Atlantic and in other European maritime theatres.

Distinctive Appearance

The Type VIIC is distinguished by its long, narrow hull, raised deck casing, external saddle tanks and compact conning tower. Bow diving planes, a tapered stern and the characteristic arrangement of deck fittings reinforce its unmistakable wartime silhouette. Conning-tower platforms and anti-aircraft fittings varied during the war, particularly as German U-boats were adapted to meet the increasing threat from Allied aircraft.

Variant Differences

Developed from the Type VIIB, the Type VIIC incorporated a slightly enlarged hull and revised internal arrangements to accommodate updated equipment. Its fundamental propulsion and torpedo layout remained closely related to the earlier design, while visible details such as the conning tower, deck casing and later anti-aircraft platforms evolved throughout production and service.

Modelling Uses

This hull is well suited to RC submarine projects, static naval dioramas, dockyard and harbour scenes, model railways with coastal settings, wargaming displays and collectors of German Second World War maritime subjects. Larger scales provide a strong basis for additional fittings, weathering and crew details, while smaller scales suit expansive port or convoy scenes.

Fun Fact

“U-boat” is derived from the German word Unterseeboot, meaning “undersea boat.” The Type VIIC became the most numerous and widely recognised member of the Type VII family.
