Valentine Mk III
Bring a classic British infantry tank to your collection with the Valentine Mk III from Blueprint to Print 3D. Introduced during the Second World War, this compact, well-armoured vehicle combined the Valentine’s characteristic low profile with an enlarged turret intended to improve crew efficiency.
Historical Role
The Valentine was designed to support infantry formations, advancing alongside troops and using its armour and armament to overcome defensive positions and engage opposing vehicles. The Mk III served in the demanding campaigns of the Second World War, including operations in North Africa, where reliability, a compact silhouette and effective armour protection were highly valued. Its 2-pounder gun was useful against many early-war armoured threats, although changing battlefield conditions eventually required more heavily armed successors.
Distinctive Appearance
The Valentine Mk III is recognisable by its low hull, closely spaced road wheels, exposed suspension units and compact tracks. Its enlarged, angular turret distinguishes it from earlier versions, while the forward driver’s position, sloping engine deck and prominent track guards create the purposeful outline associated with the Valentine family.
Variant Differences
The Mk III developed from the earlier Valentine Mk II. It retained the AEC diesel engine and 2-pounder main armament, but introduced a larger three-man turret with space for a dedicated loader. This reduced the commander’s workload compared with the earlier two-man turret. The enlarged turret is the most visible modelling difference, while side armour was reduced slightly to help offset the additional weight.
Modelling Uses
This model is ideal for British Second World War dioramas, desert campaign scenes, military model railways, tabletop wargaming displays and collectors of historic armoured vehicles. Multiple scales allow it to serve as a compact layout feature, gaming piece or detailed display centrepiece.
Fun Fact
Although its main gun remained unchanged, the Mk III’s additional turret crew member was an important practical improvement because the commander no longer had to load the weapon while also directing the tank.
