Valentine Mk IV
Recreate a notable British infantry tank of the Second World War with the Blueprint to Print 3D Valentine Mk IV. Combining the Valentine’s compact profile with reliable diesel power, this detailed model is ideal for British armoured formations, battlefield scenes and historically themed collections.
Historical Role
The Valentine was designed as an infantry tank, intended to advance alongside foot soldiers and provide protected fire support against enemy positions, machine-gun nests and light armour. The Mk IV retained the two-man turret and 2-pounder main gun of earlier versions. Valentine tanks served in several theatres, including North Africa, where their relatively low silhouette, dependable running gear and useful armour made them valuable during the hard-fought desert campaigns.
Distinctive Appearance
The Valentine Mk IV is recognisable by its low, tightly proportioned hull, compact turret and exposed suspension units with paired road wheels. Riveted construction, broad track guards, side-mounted equipment and the prominent gun mantlet give it a characteristically early-war British appearance. Its restrained dimensions contrast with the tall stance of many contemporary cruiser tanks.
Variant Differences
The Mk IV developed from the Valentine Mk II. Its principal change was the installation of an American-built GMC diesel engine with a compatible transmission, replacing the British AEC diesel arrangement. It remained externally close to the Mk II, so engine-deck, exhaust and rear-hull details are the most relevant modelling distinctions. The variant helped maintain Valentine production by using an alternative power unit while preserving the established hull, turret and armament.
Modelling Uses
This model suits North African and British Army dioramas, military model railways, tabletop wargaming displays and collectors of historic armoured vehicles. Smaller scales work well for formations and transport scenes, while larger versions provide greater presence for painting, weathering and display.
Fun Fact
The Valentine family became one of the most widely produced British tank designs of the Second World War, and its dependable chassis was also adapted for specialised vehicles such as bridgelayers and self-propelled guns.
