Valentine Mk V

Bring a distinctive British infantry tank to your collection with the Blueprint to Print 3D Valentine Mk V. Combining the Valentine’s compact profile with a three-man turret and a reliable American-built diesel powertrain, this World War II vehicle is an excellent subject for British armoured formations, training scenes and wartime dioramas.

Historical Role

The Valentine was designed as an infantry tank, intended to support foot soldiers with armour protection and steady battlefield mobility rather than high speed. The Mk V retained the established 2-pounder main gun and coaxial Besa machine gun, making it suitable for engaging enemy light armour, fortified positions and other battlefield targets. Valentine tanks served in several theatres and became particularly associated with British and Commonwealth operations during the middle years of World War II.

Distinctive Appearance

The Valentine Mk V is recognised by its low, compact hull, narrow tracks and characteristic suspension with multiple small road wheels arranged in bogie units. Its enlarged three-man turret has an angular, tightly packaged appearance, while the short 2-pounder barrel, prominent mantlet, hull-side stowage and closely fitted upper structure create the unmistakable silhouette of the Valentine family.

Variant Differences

The Mk V developed from the Valentine Mk III, retaining its three-man turret and principal armament while replacing the earlier British power unit with a GMC 6-71 diesel engine and an American transmission. Externally, it remained very similar to the Mk III, so the enlarged turret is the clearest modelling distinction from earlier two-man-turret Valentines. The variant was introduced to combine improved crew efficiency with a dependable alternative powertrain.

Modelling Uses

This detailed model is ideal for North African or European dioramas, military model railways, tabletop wargaming displays and collectors of British armour. Smaller scales suit railway layouts and formation scenes, while larger versions provide greater scope for painting, weathering, stowage and crew-focused displays.

Fun Fact

The dependable Valentine chassis was adapted for specialist vehicles, including bridgelayers, the Bishop self-propelled gun and the rear-facing Archer tank destroyer.
