Valentine Mk X
Recreate a distinctive late-war development of Britain’s dependable Valentine infantry tank with this detailed Valentine Mk X 3D-printed model. Combining compact proportions with improved firepower, it is an excellent choice for Second World War collections, British armoured formations and historically themed displays.
Historical Role
The Valentine was designed as an infantry tank, providing protected, closely coordinated support to troops on the ground. The Mk X retained this core role while carrying the more capable QF 6-pounder gun, giving its crew greater effectiveness against enemy armour than earlier 2-pounder-equipped Valentines. By the time this version appeared, heavier British tanks were increasingly prominent, but the reliable Valentine family continued to contribute through training, specialist roles and service with Allied forces.
Distinctive Appearance
The Mk X preserves the Valentine’s recognisable low silhouette, narrow hull, exposed suspension units and compact engine deck. Its principal visual feature is the enlarged, angular turret mounting the longer 6-pounder gun. A coaxial Besa machine gun was restored on this mark, distinguishing it from some earlier 6-pounder conversions. The combination of a small hull and comparatively substantial turret gives the vehicle a purposeful, unmistakable profile.
Variant Differences
The Mk X was a later development of the established Valentine design, following earlier marks armed with either the 2-pounder or 6-pounder. It introduced a redesigned turret for the 6-pounder and coaxial machine gun, together with an uprated General Motors diesel engine. These changes improved anti-armour capability and mobility while retaining the Valentine’s proven chassis and infantry-support character.
Modelling Uses
This model suits dioramas depicting British or Allied armoured units, military loads and sidings on model railways, tabletop wargaming displays, and collections focused on the evolution of wartime tank design. The range of scales supports everything from compact railway scenes to larger display centrepieces for dedicated collectors.
Fun Fact
With more than 8,000 examples of all marks completed, the Valentine became the most-produced British tank design of the Second World War.
